From an adorable love-story that started through Instagram to a splendid, picture-perfect wedding celebration in LA that you just wont be able to take your eyes off of, Riya and Ankur’s gorgeous nuptials were made of what we like to call ‘millennial dreams’. Shot by Mili Ghosh, the wedding had some stunning, unforgettable details starting right from the bride’s beautiful Sabyasachi Dil Guldasta lehenga to her color-blocking green chooda and her groom’s raging beach baraat. “Me and Ankur had absolutely nothing in common. We belonged to different cities and didn’t have any mutual friends. He just randomly happened to come across my profile one day and decided to drop a DM, something he had never done before! I too, taken a little by surprise, decided to go against my initial inhibitions to respond, and ended up replying back to him. A few weeks and some conversations later, Ankur visited me in San Diego. We ended up having the best time together - bonding over walks in the city, a few drinks and some crazy laughter and we definitely knew that we did want a second date soon! And the next thing I knew, I was getting married to Ankur, the guy from Instagram, I was deeply in love with!”
Riya’s Mehndi ceremony was quite the event, being an outdoor all-white affair with splendid decor comprising strings of fairy lights and pink-white lotus flowers. The menu was a mix of some lip-smacking Mediterranean and Mexican delicacies, personal favourites of the bride to be. The groom’s family, on the other hand, had a fun Garba night organised at their residence, complete with gorgeous, Moroccan themed decor.
However, the couple’s ‘Nature’ themed forest wedding is what stole our hearts completely! Talking about coming up with the idea of exchanging vows in a jungle, Riya says, “I had once dreamt of getting married in a whimsical forest and luckily that was the kind of wedding I actually had! I always envisioned my big day to have a natural setting, complete with the beauty, sound and fragrance of nature.”
Riya and Ankur’s forest-themed LA wedding was hosted at a gorgeous venue surrounded by verdant trees against the backdrop of the splendid Pacific Ocean. The mandap where the couple had their pheras was made up of trees laden with rustic lanterns, and the entire ceremony was replete with the joyous notes of Indian classical music. The couple ensured that the traditional touch of their Indian roots was lost nowhere, as they served delicious Gujarati delicacies as a part of their wedding menu.
Riya, fondly reminiscing the little memories that made her wedding special, says, “My surfer groom wanted to incorporate his personality into the baraat and hence odecided to enter in a beach buggy that had a custom-made surfboard attached to it. Every little moment that we spent together as a couple along with our families holds a very special place in our hearts. Little joyous instants like my dad and Ankur wearing sunglasses during the beginning of the ceremony calling themselves ‘cool’ to Ankur acting all obedient when the priest pronounced us as husband and wife left me in splits, making them unforgettable, priceless moments that'll stay with me forever!”
The couple's glamorous reception too borrowed elements from their nature themed wedding. Resplendent with chandeliers, candles, fairy lights and white blooms, the reception decor also boasted of some lush foliage that added beauty to the evening. The bride wore a fancy off-shoulder Manish Malhotra number for the night and her groom looked nothing short of a dapper dream in his black bandhgala.
